Žukarav les vov is a love song in which a woman expresses her longing for her partner. However, he seems to be in love with someone else and the woman waits in vain. The recording was made during a performance by Ruža Nikolić-Lakatos and her husband Mišo Nikolić at the Amerlinghaus in 1991.
Musical transcription based on the booklet accompanying the CD Amare gila - Unsere Lieder / Our Songs
Žukarav les vov is an original creation by the singer Ruža Nikolić-Lakatos based on a popular melody.
Ethnomusicologist Ursula Hemetek describes Žukarav les vov as follows:
![]()
"This yearning love song originated in Germany when the still young family was traveling with carpet dealers. […] They sat in their tent in the evening; Mišo took the guitar, improvised and a song was born. […] The minimal use of ornamentation and vocal expression confirms the recent origin of this song.“
The song's genesis has parallels with Tunjariko sas.
