Opre šute aba mange is the lament of a man who comes to Austria and starts a relationship with a taken woman. This gets him into great difficulties, as the other men now despise and persecute him. The recording was made as part of a concert by Ruža Nikolić-Lakatos and her husband Mišo Nikolić at the Amerlinghaus in 1991.

Musical transcription based on Romane gila. Lieder und Tänze der Roma in Österreich.

This recording was made during a Lovari party at the Nikolić family home in 1993. The guests, including Ruža's brother and other relatives, sing the song along loudly, especially the final notes of the lines. They also talk and comment in between. The recording reflects the mood of the celebration, where the music is in the foreground, as well as shows the popularity of the song.

Opre šute aba mange on the occasion of a concert by Ruža Nikolić-Lakatos and Mišo Nikolić at the Interkulttheater in 1993.

Commentary

(GERMAN ONLY) Ethnomusicologist Ursula Hemetek presents Opre šute aba mange during a performance by Ruža Nikolić-Lakatos and Mišo Nikolić at the Interkulttheater in 1993. She emphasizes that the song is a lament of a young Hungarian man. He curses the day he came to Vienna, as he got into big trouble because of an affair with a married woman.
